The Gordo bypass will create a 6.2 Mile expansion in order to increase the vehicle capacity of US-82 within Gordo and also decrease heavy-truck flow through the middle of town. The expansion will create four lanes of traffic from Mississippi to Tuscaloosa. This expansion will greatly alleviate traffic and accidents on US-82 between Mississippi to Tuscaloosa.
Construction began in 2017 with the second phase of funding expected to be bid for in 2021. The second phase will require right-of-way purchases to be made over the land.
