ALDOT had begun construction in mid-2017 to connect SR-158 and US-98 from the Mississippi line to SR-158 in Mobile. These expansions will lead ultimately to a four-lane design and free-way type interchanges as the funding becomes more available. The improved roadways will lead to safer truck bypasses and an increase in traffic between Mobile and Mississippi.
Currently, ALDOT has completed the First of Seven phases. The First phase was to extend the Eastbound Bridge on US-98 over Big Creek. The Second and Third phase are already under construction, which expanded SR-158 from east of Lott Road to Schillinger Road, and then from East of Glenwood to West of Lott Road.
The next phase, phase Four, was set to begin in Spring 2020, with phase Five set to begin in Summer 2020, phase Six in Winter of 2020, and Phase Seven in Fall 2021. The latest press release, dated December 2018, notes the bid of $26.8 Million dollars to a developer for phase Three. It is likely COVID-19 has put a delay on the remaining bidding for phases Four through Seven, but updates should be coming as development is almost a year behind schedule.
The remaining phases will require right-of-way purchases for large portions of land in the three following zip codes: 36575, 36613, and 36587. If you have land in the designated areas, you may expect to receive an offer for a portion of your land related to the construction of this project in the coming months. If you are unsure what your rights related to your land are, and what to do when you receive an offer to purchase, give us a call or visit at Sewell Sewell Beard LLC.
